MUMBAI, India, June 19 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441094925 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Tirupati on December 03, 2024, for Method For Location-Based Partial Image Retrieval For Indoor Positioning Via Vizpin Technology.

Inventor includes Kalidas Yeturu.

The application for the patent was published on June 05, 2026, under issue no. 23/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a method for enhanced indoor positioning through location-based image retrieval in visual assistant platforms. The location-based image retrieval occurs in two stages, in the first stage, the database of images is enriched with metadata such as location and indoor positioning, enabling an initial, coarse filtering of candidate images. The second stage involves a more refined search using partial image matching techniques. The method includes creation and processing of synthetic visual markings such as stickers of different kinds and colour or monochromatic patterns fixed near spots of interest as a means of vision driven pixel-based indoor positioning. The invention introduces VizPin technology for viewpoint positioning and identification from custom visual cues provided in a scene of interest. The VizPins are processed using computer vision for segmentation of VizPin zones, pixel coordinate positioning of the same to estimate the viewpoint coordinates using deep learning models.
