Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods for joining a first component to a second component with a laser welded lap joint. The laser seam of individual welds is substantially G-shaped. The weld seam comprises a substantially circular portion and a substantially straight portion at an end of the substantially circular portion, the substantially circular portion having a radius and corresponding to a circular arc around a circle centre with a central angle of 270º - 350º, and the substantially straight portion extending radially to the circle centre. The methods may be practiced on blanks prior to forming or on already formed components. The present disclosure further relates to weld assemblies obtained with such methods.
