MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411102228 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Jodhpur on December 23, 2024, for Method For Developing A Transparent, Durable, Superhydrophobic Coating For Self-Cleaning Applications.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a high-performance, a transparent, a durable, a self-cleaning, and a superhydrophobic coating for a transparent substrate, and an easy, an industrially viable, and an industrially scalable method for fabricating said coating thereof. The transparent, durable, self-cleaning, and superhydrophobic coating of the present invention comprising: (a) a base layer of a sol-gel derived alumina on the transparent substrate; and (b) a layer of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) over the base layer, wherein the base layer of the sol-gel derived alumina possesses a hierarchical micro–nano porous surface structure. The coating exhibits a self-cleaning efficacy, an optical transmittance of at least 90%, a water contact angle of at least 150°, and a roll-off angle of 10°, a wide range pH resistance, an abrasion resistance, exceptional water-repellent properties, maintenance of superhydrophobic behaviour even in challenging environments.
