Abstract: Provided are a method for decomposing nitrous oxide by which nitrous oxide can be decomposed over a long period of time while maintaining the decomposition rate thereof, and a method for producing a nitrous oxide decomposition catalyst that can be suitably used in said method for decomposing. The method for decomposing nitrous oxide comprises a step for bringing a nitrous oxide-containing gas that contains nitrous oxide, water vapor, and oxygen into contact with a catalyst in which a first component such as a ruthenium compound and a second component such as a zirconium compound are supported on a carrier containing titanium oxide, or a catalyst in which a first component such as a ruthenium compound is supported on a carrier containing titanium oxide and silicon oxide. The provided method for producing a nitrous oxide decomposition catalyst can be suitably used in said method for decomposing.
