MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521041359 A) filed by Tata Consultancy Services Limited on April 29, 2025, for Method And System For Private And Resource-Efficient Abundance Estimation.

Inventors include Saglani, Divyesh; Alasingara Bhattachar, Rajan Mindigal; and Sivadasan, Naveen.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PRIVATE AND RESOURCE-EFFICIENT ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION The present disclosure addresses the problems related to k-mer abundance estimation. Conventional approaches mainly focus on efficient computations and do not address privacy concerns. The present disclosure maintains the strengths of FHE and the use of honey-kmers to provide a secure, efficient, and reliable solution for k-mer abundance estimation. The value of each honey-kmer is set to zero, ensuring that they do not alter the results of the abundance histogram. With the introduction of honey-kmers, the requirement to encrypt the sampling level and counter number is eliminated. This approach not only addresses the issues of data privacy and computational efficiency but also enhances the scalability of genomic analyses, paving the way for advancements in personalized medicine and other critical areas of research. Consequently, encrypted comparison operations are eliminated, significantly reducing the overall time complexity of the matrix update process with improved overall accuracy of the algorithm. [
