Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system for enhancing the computational efficiency of a technical system using determinant identities of Jacobsthal and Jacobsthal-Lucas numbers is disclosed. A computation analysis module determines whether a technical computation of the system entails or is reducible to a determinant of a structured matrix, a tridiagonal, Toeplitz, Hessenberg, or circulant matrix with constant or sequence-derived entries, of a family for which such a determinant identity holds, or a sequence or transform derived therefrom. An evaluation module then obtains the determinant or derived quantity from the corresponding Jacobsthal or Jacobsthal-Lucas number or closed-form expression, rather than by a general cubic-cost method, a number generation submodule computing the requisite number by linear recurrence, logarithmic-cost fast doubling, or closed form, and in modular arithmetic where required. An integration module substitutes the efficient evaluation within the technical system, a cryptographic apparatus, error-correcting encoder or decoder, or signal-processing apparatus, so that it performs its technical function with reduced computation, time, energy, or hardware, particularly upon resource-constrained processors, the result being verified identical to the general method.
