Embodiments herein provide a method and system for identifying one or more defects in Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) of an airline. Historical data is collected from the airline MRO repository. The historical data comprises historical defect descriptions along with the solutions which were solved earlier by the experts. The defect descriptions are ranked based on an optimized similarity score and the highest final defect description is selected based on a threshold value. If the defect description does not match with the historical defect description, then it will be classified as a new defect description. [
