Abstract: Method for monitoring an internal combustion engine (1) of a motor vehicle with an exhaust gas recirculation circuit (8), for monitoring the vacuum level in a brake assist system (3), the vacuum level of which depends on the vacuum prevailing in an air intake distributor (17). The method comprises at least one step of measuring (E1) the vacuum level in the brake assist system (3), a step of comparing (E2) the measured vacuum level with at least a first threshold value (NOK1), and a step of deactivating (E3) exhaust gas recirculation, so as to increase the vacuum in the air intake distributor (17).
