Abstract: METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING FLOW RATE OF WATER FOR COOLING METAL STRANDS ABSTRACT 5 Disclosed subject matter relates to a method and a flow rate controlling system for cooling metal strands. The method includes receiving values of casting parameters associated with predefined zones of a slab caster, from predefined sources. The method further includes estimating a surface temperature for each grid point of a plurality of grid points associated with 10 a metal strand moving along predefined zones of slab caster, by determining a heat extraction rate for each of plurality of grid points of metal strand in respective predefined zones, based on a correlation between values of respective casting parameters, using predefined heat conduction functions. Thereafter, controlling a flow rate of water for each of plurality of grid points of metal strand, based on a difference between an actual surface temperature profile and 15 surface temperature, of metal strand.
