Abstract: A method for automated collision avoidance is configured to be performed on a system (100) coupled to an autonomous vehicle. The system (100) comprises one or more sensors (102), a processor (104), and a control unit (106). The method involves detecting a target vehicle approaching from an opposite direction, calculating primary and secondary parameters between the vehicles, determining difference values, and identifying if the target vehicle is a wrong-way vehicle. The processor (104) calculates relative velocity and time-to-collision and determines a safe lane for maneuvering. The control unit (106) maneuvers the autonomous vehicle based on the determined safe lane. The method enables continuing in autonomous mode in unusual traffic patterns and detects wrong-way vehicles using radial distance and azimuthal angle. This efficient approach enhances road safety with low sensor dependency. [Fig. 1 to be used as representative figure]
