Abstract: ABSTRACT The present disclosure describes a pet safety monitoring system (100) comprising at least one sensing module (102) for detecting one or more physical parameters within a predefined area and generating sensor data; an event detection module (104) for determining an event based on the sensor data and generating an event trigger signal; at least one image acquisition module (106) for capturing images of at least one object based on the event trigger signal; and a communication module (108) for transmitting the images to a pet detection module (110) comprising a trained computational model for classifying the object and generating a confidence value. A processing module (112) receives the confidence value and determines the presence of a pet based thereon, and upon determining the presence of the pet, actuates an alert module (114) to generate an alert and transmit a notification to a user device (116).
