MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511011018 A) filed by Amity University on February 10, 2025, for Method And Composition For Green Synthesis Of Silica Nanoparticles Using Marigold Flower Extracts.

Inventors include Sheenam Thatai; Yashneeti Mehta; and Parul Khurana.

The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an environmentally benign, water-based process wherein an aqueous extract of marigold (Tagetes) flowers functions as a reducing, stabilizing, and capping agent for the synthesis of silica nanoparticles from tetraethyl orthosilicate. The method enables controlled nanoparticle formation under moderate temperature conditions without the use of hazardous chemicals or synthetic surfactants. The biosynthesized silica nanoparticles exhibit uniform nanoscale characteristics, mesoporous structure, and surface functionalization by phytochemicals. The resulting composition predominantly comprises silica nanoparticles with minor residual phytochemical content and negligible moisture. The invention provides a sustainable, low-energy, and scalable approach suitable for industrial applications including environmental, biomedical, and coating technologies.
