MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441097427 A) filed by L&t Technology Services Limited on December 10, 2024, for Method And Apparatus For Ensuring Safe Landing Of Drone In Event Of Motor Failure.

Inventor includes Emmanuel Nehemiah Jebaraj.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an apparatus and a method of ensuring safe landing of a drone in event of motor failure. The drone controller of the apparatus detects the motor failure and adjusts speed of working motor(s) located in opposite direction to the failed motor to achieve equilibrium position of the drone. When the equilibrium position is unachievable with the adjusted speed, propulsion engine(s) is used to place the drone in the equilibrium position. In the equilibrium position, altitude of the drone is monitored. When the altitude is less than a threshold, propulsive thrust is provided to the drone using the propulsion engine(s). When the altitude is greater than the threshold, the drone controller stops drone’ working motors and deploys parachute for safe landing. While falling with the parachute, the drone’s altitude is monitored and propulsive thrust is provided when the altitude becomes less than the threshold. Fig. 2
