MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411094628 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research on December 02, 2024, for Metal-Free Preparation Of Propylene Carbonate And Its Process Thereof.

Inventor includes Chandrasekaran Naveen Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to Metal-free preparation of propylene carbonates from Carbon dioxide and epoxide containing monomers and polymers and its process thereof. In particular, the present invention relates to 100% atom economy process for the preparation of organic carbonates using Carbon dioxide and epoxide in presence of amino acid derived catalyst without additional use of any metal containing complexes or salts in 95-99 % yield and 99.99 purity with shorter reaction time. The amino acid derived catalyst can be recovered completely after the process and can be reused for at least minimum of 5 cycles for the preparation of organic carbonates without loss of activity.
