Abstract: The Mesh Network Disaster Communication System is an Android-based application designed to enable communication in situations where conventional network infrastructure fails, such as during natural disasters or emergency scenarios. In such conditions, mobile networks and internet services often become unavailable, making it difficult for individuals and rescue teams to exchange information and coordinate effectively. This system uses Wi-Fi Direct peer-to-peer communication to allow nearby devices to connect and exchange messages without requiring intemet connectivity. It supports broadcast messaging, direct messaging, and SOS alerts, ensuring that users can communicate critical information in real time. A key feature of the system is its store-and-forward relay mechanism, which enables messages to be forwarded through intermediate devices, extending communication beyond direct connection range. The application also includes message status tracking, retry mechanisms, and logical topology visualization, providing better reliability and visibility of the network. Built using Android technologies such as Kotlin, Room Database, and custom socket communication, the system demonstrates a practical approach to creating temporary decentralized communication networks. This project highlights how smartphones can be used to establish resilient, offline communication systems that are useful in disaster scenarios, improving connectivity, coordination, and emergency response when traditional networks are unavailable.
