Abstract: TITLE OF THE INVENTION: MECHANICAL LOCKING ASSEMBLY FOR WORM GEAR SYSTEMS AND RELATED METHOD The present disclosure discloses a mechanical locking assembly (100) for a worm gear-driven positioning system (10). The mechanical locking assembly (100) includes a segmented gear lock (110), a longitudinal alignment slot (113), a gear lock holder (130), and a gear lock holding plate (150). The segmented gear lock (110) has a plurality of teeth (111) with a tooth profile configured to mesh with teeth (11a) of a worm gear (11). The longitudinal alignment slot (113) is formed in the segmented gear lock (110). The gear lock holder (130) has a first end (130a) and a second end (130b). The segmented gear lock (110) is coupled to the first end (130a) of the gear lock holder (130). The gear lock holder (130) is configured to move axially to position the segmented gear lock (110) towards or away from the worm gear (11) for engagement or disengagement.
