Abstract: ABSTRACT MARINE DEBRIS DETECTION SYSTEM USING SATELLITE IMAGERY AND NEURAL NETWORK A marine debris detection system (100) comprises a data acquisition module (110) configured to receive multi-spectral satellite imagery (112) of an ocean surface, wherein the multi-spectral satellite imagery (112) includes red, green, blue (RGB) bands and a near-infrared (NIR) band. A preprocessing module (120) resizes the multi-spectral satellite imagery (112) to a standardized resolution and segments the multi-spectral satellite imagery (112) into image tiles (122). An object detection module (130) comprising a trained neural network processes the image tiles (122) and generates bounding box predictions (132) identifying locations of marine debris. A georeferencing module (140) transforms pixel coordinates of the bounding box predictions (132) into geographic coordinates using affine transformation matrices derived from raster metadata of the multi- spectral satellite imagery (112). An output module (150) exports the geographic coordinates as geospatial data (152) in a format compatible with geographic information system (GIS) applications. (Fig. 1)
