Abstract: ABSTRACT [0071] The present invention relates to a synergistic antimicrobial composition derived from marine microorganisms and its application in antimicrobial urinary catheter fabrication. More particularly, the invention discloses a co-culture-based system involving S. roseus and 5, griseorubens for the production of bio active metabolites comprising carotenoid pigments and althiomycin. The obtained bioactive composition exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal activity against pathogens commonly associated with urinary tract infections. The antimicrobial compounds are extracted using organic solvent extraction and characterized using analytical techniques. The composition is incorporated into urinary catheter materials through coating, impregnation, or encapsulation . techniques to provide sustained antimicrobial activity. The resulting antimicrobial catheter prevents microbial adhesion and inhibits biofilm formation on catheter surfaces. The invention provides a naturally derived antimicrobial system suitable for biomedical applications and infection control in clinical environments, particularly for reducing catheter-associated urinary tract infections.
