MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202617073412 A) filed by Herrenknecht AG on June 12, 2026, for Main Drive Seal System For A Tunnel Boring Machine.
Inventors include Isele, Dietmar; and Mnchbach, Markus.
The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.
Abstract: The invention relates to a main drive seal system for a drive shaft of a cutting wheel of a tunnel boring machine, comprising at least one pressurization and pressure- control system having at least one electronic controller (80) which comprises: at least one data storage unit; at least one data processing unit; and at least one control command output unit, the electronic controller (80) having a control program which, inter alia, has the following steps: calculating a pressure difference ?pi between the desired value pi-SOLL and the actual value pi-IST, i being the number of the chamber whose actual pressure is being controlled, and checking whether ?pi lies in a range x 0 y, x and y being a lower interval limit and an upper interval limit, wherein, if ?pi lies in the range x 0 y, the first compressed-air switching valve (21, 21', 31, 41) of the at least one chamber i (P2, P2', P3, P4) and the second compressed-air switching valve (22, 23, 22', 23', 32, 33, 42, 43) of the at least one chamber i (P2, P2', P3, P4) are controlled such that they are in the closed position, wherein, if ?pi is y, the first compressed-air switching valve (21, 21', 31, 41) of the at least one chamber i (P2, P2', P3, P4) is controlled such that it switches to the open position and the second compressed-air switching valve (22, 23, 22', 23', 32, 33, 42, 43) of the at least one chamber i (P2, P2', P3, P4) is controlled such that it is in the closed position, and wherein, if ?pi is x, the second compressed-air switching valve (22, 23, 22', 23', 32, 33, 42, 43) of the at least one chamber i (P2, P2', P3, P4) is controlled such that it switches to the open position and the first compressed-air switching valve (21, 21', 31, 41) of the at least one chamber i (P2, P2', P3, P4) is controlled such that it is in the closed position.
