MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621077806 A) filed by Lnct University on June 24, 2026, for Magnetically Tunable Graphene-Metal Surface Plasma Wave Device For Terahertz Radiation Generation And Plasmonic Control.

Inventors include Dr. Santosh Jain; and Swati Saxena.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a magnetically tunable graphene-metal surface plasma wave device for controlling plasmon propagation and generating terahertz radiation. The device comprises a thin metallic film, graphene layer, dielectric or nonlinear glass layer, laser excitation source, magnetic field generation unit, and radiation detection arrangement. A laser beam excites surface plasma waves at the interface between the metallic film and adjacent dielectric, plasma-like, or graphene-based medium. A static magnetic field is applied to modify the dispersion characteristics, field amplitude, and propagation behavior of the surface plasma waves. In one embodiment, a graphene layer embedded over a thin metal film supports surface plasmons in the terahertz frequency range. Nonlinear interaction or beating of two laser-driven plasmons generates terahertz radiation. The device may further include nanoparticles or nanostructured surfaces for electromagnetic field enhancement and harmonic generation. The invention provides a compact and tunable platform useful for plasmonic devices, photonic circuits, spectroscopy, diagnostics, sensing, and coherent radiation generation. Tiny waves, big job. Naturally.
