MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411095445 A) filed by Lovely Professional University on December 04, 2024, for Magnetically Functionalized Biopolymer For Targeted Heavy Metal Capture And Recycling.
Inventors include Prasann Kumar; Mastu Patel; and Polu Picheswara Rao.
The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.
Abstract: The invention provides an eco-friendly solution for the removal of heavy metals from contaminated water sources using Biomass- Derived Activated Carbon (BDAC). BDAC is produced from renewable biomass materials such as agricultural and forestry byproducts, which undergo a carbonization process followed by activation using either chemical or physical methods to create a porous structure with a high surface area. This activated carbon is highly effective in adsorbing heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and arsenic, offering a sustainable and cost-effective water treatment solution. BDAC is biodegradable, non-toxic, and capable of being used in various water treatment systems, ranging from small-scale household filters to large industrial units, addressing global water contamination issues efficiently.
