Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a Magnet-Assisted Orthodontic Ligature Retrieval and Positioning Instrument, a novel orthodontic hand instrument designed to facilitate the retrieval, handling, positioning, and placement of stainless-steel ligature wires and other small ferromagnetic orthodontic auxiliaries during clinical procedures. Conventional orthodontic practice frequently involves manipulation of fine stainless-steel ligature wires, Kobayashi ligatures, separators, and cut wire fragments that are prone to accidental dropping within the oral cavity or onto the clinical field. Retrieval using conventional tweezers or explorers is often difficult, time-consuming, and increases the risk of aspiration or ingestion. The proposed invention incorporates a miniature high-strength permanent rare-earth magnet integrated within the distal working tip of an orthodontic instrument to attract, retrieve, stabilize, and reposition metallic orthodontic auxiliaries. The opposite end incorporates a ligature director or ligature tucker, enabling dual functionality within a single instrument. The localized magnetic field is confined to the working tip, minimizing interference with adjacent orthodontic appliances while allowing precise retrieval of metallic components. Novelty resides in the structural integration of a magnetic retrieval tip with a dual-function orthodontic ligature positioning instrument specifically engineered for orthodontic clinical procedures. The invention reduces chairside time, improves clinical efficiency, minimizes accidental loss of orthodontic auxiliaries, and enhances patient safety.
