Inventors include Abinaya Varshini A D; Gayathri R; Gopika P; and Dr. J Bindhu.

The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.

Abstract: A multifunctional electrospun nanofibrous scaffold for bone tissue engmeenng and regenerative applications is disclosed. The scaffold comprises a biodegradable nanofibrous matrix integrated with magnesium (11), eggshell-derived calcium reinforcement, and a bioactive phytochemical component obtained from Zea mays husk extract. Magnesium (II) is incorporated to provide controlled osteogenic ion-mediated activity and support cellular signaling associated with bone regeneration. Eggshell calcium serves as a naturally derived mineral reinforcement phase contributing to osteoconductive properties and physicochemical stability, while Zea mays husk extract provides bioactive functionality associated with antioxidant and regenerative activity. The scaffold is fabricated using an electrospinning process to obtain interconnected porous nanofibrous architecture capable of mimicking extracellular matrix characteristics and supp01iing cell adhesion and proliferation. The integrated system is designed to provide a regenerative microenvironment through the synergistic effect of ion-mediated stimulation, mineral support, and bioactive phytochemical incorporation. The disclosed scaffold may be utilized for bone defect repair, orthopedic tissue engineering, guided tissue regeneration, and regenerative medicine applications.
