MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411095444 A) filed by Lovely Professional University on December 04, 2024, for Magnesium Aluminate Spinel Cathode Material For Battery Performance Enhancement And A Method Of Synthesis Thereof.

Inventors include Prabhpreet Kaur; and Suman Rani.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a magnesium aluminate spinel cathode material designed to enhance battery performance, particularly in the field of energy storage systems. The invention comprises a magnesium aluminate spinel structure with a cubic crystal configuration, into which a plurality of dopants, including transition metals such as manganese, cobalt, nickel, and iron, are introduced. This structure is capable of intercalating lithium or magnesium ions, providing high structural stability, thermal resistance, and chemical durability. The magnesium aluminate spinel structure is synthesized using a sol-gel method, involving the preparation of a solution with high-purity magnesium and aluminum precursors, the addition of a chelating agent, and subsequent aging, drying, and calcining to crystallize the structure. The resulting cathode material is non-flammable and operates efficiently across a wide temperature range. The invention also includes a method for synthesizing the cathode material and a battery system with the cathode, anode, electrolyte, and housing.
