MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641109817 A) filed by Saveetha Engineering College on September 13, 2026, for Machine Learning-Based Predictive Flood Early Warning And Disaster Management System.
Inventors include Dr. G. Arul Dalton; Ms. Karthiga M; Mr. Dhayananth P S Reg. No; Mr. Jenil Pio J Reg. No; and Mr. Mukesh A Reg. No.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a machine learning-based predictive flood early warning and disaster management system configured to forecast flood occurrence, severity, geographical extent, water depth and expected arrival time using heterogeneous environmental and geographical information. The system acquires rainfall observations, river levels, discharge information, soil moisture, weather forecasts, satellite observations, terrain characteristics, drainage information and historical flood records. A data-conditioning mechanism synchronizes and evaluates the received information and generates a spatially distributed environmental state. A spatiotemporal machine learning architecture processes the environmental state to identify relationships between evolving rainfall, hydrological conditions, geographical characteristics and flood propagation. The system generates future flood probability, predicted inundation depth, expected arrival time and predicted flood extent for multiple geographical regions and forecast horizons. An uncertainty mechanism evaluates confidence associated with the predictions, while an adaptive warning mechanism generates progressive location-specific alerts according to predicted impact and confidence. A disaster-management module determines evacuation routes, safe shelters, infrastructure-protection actions and emergency-resource positioning according to predicted flood progression. Subsequent observations are compared with predicted conditions through a continuous feedback mechanism for controlled model improvement. The invention thereby provides an integrated predictive platform capable of converting environmental observations into early warnings and coordinated disaster-management decisions before and during flood events.
