Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to machine direction oriented films having a matte surface. The films according to embodiments disclosed herein include a first outer layer, a core, and a second outer layer, wherein the first outer layer has a matte surface and a surface of roughness of greater than 50 microns. The first outer layer includes a high density polyethylene and a polyethylene elastomer or plastomer. The machine direction oriented film can have excellent optical properties and can be recyclable.
