Abstract: A macerator (100) is provided including a chamber (110) for receiving waste material (120) to be macerating. The chamber (110) includes a chopping system (130), a fluid inlet and a drain outlet (140), wherein the drain outlet outputs an effluent formed by the waste material (120) and the fluid from the chamber (110). The macerator (100) includes a sensor (150) in fluid communication with, and downstream of, the drain outlet (140). The sensor (150) measures a characteristic of the effluent. The macerator (100) includes a controller configured to: initiate a maceration cycle in the macerator (100), receive sensor data from the sensor (150), and modify the maceration cycle based on the sensor data.
