Abstract: The growing need for sustainable energy solutions has prompted investigations into electricity generation from waste materials. This method entails transforming both organic and inorganic waste into electrical energy, tackling the challenges of energy demand and waste management. Approaches such as anaerobic digestion are being examined to turn waste into biogas, syngas, or other forms of usable energy. The advantages include decreased landfill usage, reduced emissions of greenhouse gases, and a more sustainable energy supply. This paper details the potential of waste-to-energy technologies, their operational mechanisms, and their effects on environmental sustainability and energy production. With India's substantial population generating a significant quantity of waste each day, this innovative concept of producing electricity from solid waste can mitigate pollution and generate harmful gases like CO2, CO, SO2, NO2, and heavy metals. The paper provides an overview of waste-to- energy conversion, addressing various technologies, benefits, challenges, and opportunities. Case studies and instances of successful waste-to-energy initiatives illustrate the promise of this strategy.
