Abstract: LOW-COST SMART SHOPPING CART SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DECENTRALIZED RETAIL CHECKOUT ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a low-cost smart shopping cart system and method for decentralized retail checkout. The system comprises a smart shopping cart (100) including a barcode scanner (102), an embedded processing unit (104), a wireless communication interface (106), a rechargeable power supply (108), and a cart identification module (110). The smart shopping cart (100) communicates with a backend server system (200) comprising an application server (202), transaction engine (204), product and inventory database module (206), payment gateway module (208), session management engine (210), and database (212). A customer mobile application (300) enables cart association, real-time billing, cart management, digital payment, and invoice generation. The invention employs a session-based cart-to-mobile pairing mechanism and an adaptive session integrity engine for maintaining isolated shopping sessions among multiple simultaneously operating carts. The invention eliminates the need for RFID infrastructure, cameras, and centralized billing counters, thereby providing an economical and scalable retail automation solution particularly suitable for small and medium-scale retail establishments.
