Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a LoRa-based underground cable monitoring and automatic protection system for enhancing the safety and reliability of power distribution networks. The system comprises a temperature sensing unit, a humidity sensing unit, a microcontroller-based processing unit, a LoRa communication module, a monitoring interface, and a relay-based protection unit. The sensing units continuously monitor environmental conditions associated with an underground power cable and transmit the acquired data to the processing unit. The processing unit compares the sensed parameters with predefined threshold values and detects abnormal operating conditions. Upon detection of excessive temperature, moisture ingress, or other fault-indicating conditions, the processing unit transmits fault information through the LoRa communication module and actuates the relay-based protection unit to automatically disconnect power supplied to the cable. The invention provides real-time monitoring, long-range wireless communication, autonomous fault protection, reduced maintenance requirements, and improved operational reliability of underground cable networks.
