Abstract: The present invention relates to a localized induction heating-based ironing system with selective coil activation and a passive ironing handle, particularly for energy- efficient garment ironing applications. The system comprises an ironing surface (1), an induction coil array (2) having a plurality of independently controllable induction coils arranged beneath the ironing surface, a sensor system (3) configured to detect the presence and position of a passive ironing handle (5), a control unit (4) configured to selectively energize one or more induction coils positioned beneath the passive ironing handle, and a support structure (6) for accommodating the system components. The passive ironing handle comprises a ferromagnetic soleplate and is substantially devoid of an internal electrical heating element, thermostat, electrical wiring, rechargeable battery, or power cable, whereby heating of the soleplate is achieved solely through electromagnetic induction. Upon detection of the passive ironing handle, the control unit selectively activates the corresponding induction coil(s) to generate a localized heating zone (7) beneath the handle. As the handle moves across the ironing surface, the sensor system continuously tracks its position, enabling the control unit to dynamically deactivate previously energized induction coils and activate subsequent induction coils, thereby causing the localized heating zone to follow the movement of the handle. The invention minimizes unnecessary heat generation, reduces standby power consumption, improves operational safety, decreases the weight and complexity of the ironing handle, and enhances overall energy efficiency while providing effective garment ironing. The invention is suitable for domestic, commercial, and industrial ironing applications.
