Abstract: Traditional livestock monitoring methods rely on manual observation, which can lead to delayed detection of health abnormalities and feeding issues. To overcome these limitations, this project presents an IoT-Based Smart Livestock Health and Feeding Monitoring System using Raspberry Pi 4 for continuous and real-time monitoring of cattle. The system integrates a MAX30100 heart rate sensor to measure the cow’s pulse rate and generate alerts if it falls below the normal threshold range of 46–48 BPM. A temperature sensor is used to continuously monitor body temperature to detect fever or hypothermia conditions. The MPU6050 accelerometer and gyroscope module is employed to determine whether the cattle is sitting or standing, enabling behavioral analysis and early identification of potential health problems. Feeding activity is monitored using an ultrasonic sensor to detect the presence and duration of eating, while a load cell integrated with the HX711 module measures the quantity of feed supplied and consumed, ensuring proper feeding management twice daily. The Raspberry Pi 4 acts as the central controller, processing sensor data and comparing it with predefined normal ranges. When abnormal conditions are detected, instant alert messages are sent through a Telegram Bot, and the data are uploaded to the ThingSpeak cloud platform for remote monitoring and analysis. Additionally, periodic health updates are transmitted every two hours. The proposed system offers a cost-effective, automated, and scalable smart farming solution that improves early disease detection, optimizes feeding management, reduces manual supervision, enhances animal welfare, and supports precision livestock farming practices.
