MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621067977 A) filed by Svkm Nmims School Of Pharmacy And Technology Management, Shirpur Campus on May 30, 2026, for Liposomal Nanoformulation With Modified Folic Acid Polymer For Targeted Cancer Delivery And Preparation Method Thereof.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a liposomal nanoformulation with modified folic acid polymer for targeted cancer delivery and preparation method thereof. The formulation comprises capecitabine encapsulated within liposomal nanoparticles, a polymer comprising mPEG-PA-g-FA (methoxy polyethylene glycol-phenylalanine- grafted-folic acid), and a lipid mixture containing a sterol lipid and a phospholipid. The method comprises preparing a lipid mixture, forming a thin film using a rotary evaporator, hydrating with aqueous buffer containing capecitabine, and probe sonication to produce liposomal nanoparticles.The nanoformulation is configured for targeting colorectal cancer cells through interaction with folate receptors overexpressed on cancer cell surfaces, wherein the phenylalanine-conjugated folic acid polymer facilitates receptor-mediated endocytosis and selective delivery of capecitabine to tumor cells while reducing off-target effects on normal tissues. The nanoformulation finds application in targeted drug delivery for colorectal cancer treatment.
