Abstract: A precipitation collection apparatus includes a precipitation inlet (1), a particulate mesh filter (3) disposed downstream of the precipitation inlet (2), and a rainfall measurement assembly (4, 12) disposed downstream of the particulate filter (3, 5) and upstream of a collection bottle (7, 8). A sensor (5) detects operation of the rainfall measurement assembly (4, 12), and a micro controller (9) determines a rainfall amount based on signals from the sensor (5). A microSD card module stores rainfall records generated by the controller into a memory card, and a display (10) presents the rainfall amount. A non-metallic sample-contact pathway extends from the precipitation inlet (1), through the particulate filter (3), through the rainfall measurement assembly (4, 12), and to the collection bottle (7) to convey precipitation while preserving trace-metal composition and stable isotope composition of the precipitation.
