MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631073602 A) filed by Dr. Chandradeep Singh; and Umang Mishra on June 13, 2026, for Lightweight Cryptographic And Authentication System For Secure I2c Communication In Resource-Constrained Embedded Systems.
Inventors include Dr. Chandradeep Singh; and Umang Mishra.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a computer-implemented lightweight cryptographic and authentication system (100) for secure Inter-Integrated Circuit communication in resource-constrained embedded systems. The system (100) comprises an I2C master (1), at least one I2C slave (2), an I2C bus (3), an encryption module (4), a lightweight cipher engine (5), an initialization vector generator (6), an authentication module (7), a challenge-response unit (8), a secure frame formatter (9), and a secured I2C device interface (10). The encryption module (4) secures payload data transmitted through the I2C bus (3), and the lightweight cipher engine (5) encrypts and decrypts the payload using AES-128, Speck, or a combination thereof. The authentication module (7) and challenge-response unit (8) perform mutual authentication and message authentication code verification. The secure frame formatter (9) generates a secure I2C frame comprising an encrypted payload, an initialization vector or counter value, and a message authentication code while preserving standard I2C timing, addressing, and ACK/NACK signalling. The system provides confidentiality, integrity, authentication, replay protection, reduced computational overhead, and secure communication for embedded, industrial, automotive, sensor, and Internet of Things devices.
