Abstract: A lightweight integral trailer (100) for cargo vehicles includes a trailer body having a floor structure (12), a first side structure and a second side structure (13), a roof structure (14), a front portion (15), and a rear portion (16). The trailer (100) has a single axle (3) coupled to the trailer body, a suspension system (4) coupled to the trailer body, and a coupling mechanism configured to couple the trailer (100) to a prime mover. The trailer body has an integral structure formed from a series of interconnected steel tubes (9), and the integral structure performs functions of both a chassis and a container body. The loads from the cargo and road reactions are transferred across the floor structure (12), the first and second side structures (13), the roof structure (14), the front portion (15), and the rear portion (16).
