Abstract: A light emitting element (ED) includes a first semiconductor layer (31) doped with an n-type dopant, a second semiconductor layer (32) disposed on the first semiconductor layer (31) and doped with a p-type dopant, an active layer (36) between the first semiconductor layer (31) and the second semiconductor layer (32), an electrode layer (37) disposed on the second semiconductor layer (32), and an insulating film (38) surrounding an outer surface of at least the active layer (36). A diameter of the first semiconductor layer (31) is in a range of about 0.5 µm to about 10 µm, and the insulating film (38) includes a first layer (IL1) surrounding the first semiconductor layer (31), the second semiconductor layer (32), and the active layer (36) and a second layer (IL2) disposed on the first layer (IL1) and including aluminum nitride (AlN).
