MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411088481 A) filed by Rakuten Symphony, Inc. on November 15, 2024, for Layer 1/Layer 2 Triggered Mobility Between Cells Transmitting Different Reference Signals.

Inventors include Chandrashekar, Subramanya; and To, Duc Ba.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: An apparatus (700) is disclosed which receives, from a User Equipment (UE) (401), one or more Layer 3 (L3) measurement reports of one or more cells associated with one or more of a plurality of gNodeB-Distributed Units (gNB-DUs) (303). The apparatus (700) identifies a cell among the one or more cells associated with the one or more of the plurality of gNB-DUs, to be configured as a LTM candidate cell, based on the received corresponding L3 measurement reports. The apparatus (700) determines that the identified cell to be configured as the LTM candidate cell, transmit a different RS than a UE’s serving cell, of the UE (401). The apparatus (700) configures at least one of the UE’s serving cell and the identified cell to transmit a plurality of different RSs in the corresponding cell, to provide at least one common RS between the UE’s serving cell and the identified cell.
