Abstract: ABSTRACT “LATHE” The invention relates to a lathe with a main spindle and a first motor for driving the main spindle, a machine bed on which a main slide can be moved manually in a Z direction by means of a first handwheel (1), a cross slide mounted on the main slide, which can be manually moved in an X direction perpendicular to the Z direc-tion by means of a second handwheel, characterized by a gearbox (2) mounted on the main slide with a second motor (14) for selectively driving (i) a first nut (3) ro-tatably mounted in the gearbox (2), which is in engagement with a first threaded spindle (3a) fixedly connected to the machine bed, or (ii) a second threaded spindle (23), which is in engagement with a second nut fixedly attached to the cross slide, wherein an electro-mechanical gearshift is provided in the gearbox (2) is provided with an electro-mechanical gearbox which can be shifted by means of a shift lever (7) in such a way that either the main slide or the cross slide can be moved by mo-tor means by means of the second motor (14) in a +direction or in an opposite -direction.
