Abstract: ABSTRACT LATENT THOMPSON SAMPLING BASED MMWAVE RECEIVE BEAM MEASUREMENT AND SELECTION Beamforming enables millimeter- wave (mmWave) to achieve high data rate in 5G and beyond. However, accurate beam alignment entails a large training overhead. User device orientation changes and mobility can cause rapid beam misalignment and make the beam gain a non-stationary random process. We propose a comprehensive approach, LTBS, that combines latent Thompson sampling to track the angle of arrival (AoA), receive beam subset selection based on the latent sampled AoA, and a stochastic beam pair channel model for measured beam pair gains, modulation and coding scheme adaptation, gain prediction model based on the spatial channel model (SCM) adapted by 3GPP to select the beam for data. We also propose variations that employ windowing to tackle change in channel statistics due to lateral mobility. These methods ensure robust tracking of AoA resulting in good rate, even in severe channel conditions. FIG. 5a
