Abstract: ABSTRACT LASER WELDING OF BATTERY CELL TAB TO BUS BAR The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for welding a bus bar to a battery cell tab to form reliable electrical connections in a battery module. The method includes positioning a plurality of battery cells having cell tabs and a plurality of bus bars in a fixture 202, clamping each bus bar to the respective cell tab to establish a zero-gap contact, measuring an actual height of the clamped bus bar using a height sensing unit, and determining a height variation by comparing the actual height with a predetermined ideal height. A Z-axis actuator 306 adjusts the vertical position of a welding head 204 based on the height variation, and laser welding is performed after the corrected height is achieved. The invention ensures accurate welding focus, uniform weld penetration, and improved reliability of electrically connected battery modules. [
