Abstract: The term zoological insecticide refers to animal-derived zoo-extracts that are rich in secondary metabolites, commonly termed zoochemicals. In this study, the insecticidal potential of a zoological insecticide derived from the test and spine extracts of the sea urchin Salmacis virgulata (L. Agassiz & Desor, 1846) was evaluated against Tribolium castaneum and Aedes aegypti. The ethanolic extract (50%) exhibited significant insecticidal activity, including repellent effects on Tribolium castaneum and larvicidal toxicity against Aedes aegypti. These findings support the use of zoo-waste materials, such as sea urchin extracts and their zoochemicals, as zoological insecticides. This eco-friendly approach to pest control offers advantages over synthetic pesticides, as these natural products are biodegradable and pose fewer environmental hazards.
