Abstract: 7. ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION 24/02/2025 In urban areas, underground cable systems are widely used for power transmission due to their reliability and aesthetic advantages: However, locating faults in these cables is challenging when failures occur due to factors like insulation damage, environmental conditions, or physical disturbances. The proposed loT-based Underground Cable Fault Detection System effectively addresses this issue by detecting and locating faults in real time. The system uses an Arduino microcontroller along with a switching unit placed at regular intervals (e.g., every 10 km) to determine the exact fault location. When a fault occurs, the system calculates the distance from the base station and transmits the fault details via a Wi-Fi module to a dedicated website. This enables authorized personnel to· receive pnor information about the fault, allowing quick response and minimizing downtime. The implementation of this smart fault detection system enhances maintenance efficiency, reduces repair time. and improves the overall reliability of underground power distribution networks.
