Abstract: The current invention provides an IoT-based smart agriculture framework for real-time field monitoring, automatic irrigation decision-making, operator control of irrigation, and communication with the farmer through voice. A plurality of IoT sensors collect soil moisture, temperature, humidity, rainfall, light intensity, and water level. The collected measurements are sent to an IoT gateway and then transmitted to a processing unit that contains a smart irrigation decision module. The decision module estimates irrigation needs based on various agricultural parameters and a dynamically chosen decision rule. The irrigation controller turns the pump or irrigation valve on or off based on the created decision. Irrigation decisions, abnormal conditions, water-level events, and irrigation status are accounted for and framed into a voice alerts module by converting them into audible notifications through a speaker, mobile device or a given smart gateway for any farmer. The feedback mechanism assesses the post-irrigation measurements and makes necessary updates to the subsequent irrigation decisions. This invention is capable of performing real-time agricultural monitoring, automatic irrigation, optimization of water use, and a Voice-based decision support tool for smart farming applications.
