Abstract: ABSTRACT The rapid growth of urbanization and the increasing number of vehicles on roads have created pressing challenges in vehicle safety, fleet management, and emergency response. This project presents a GPS-based IoT vehicle tracking and safety monitoring system designed to provide real-time location tracking, speed monitoring, and automated alert generation for both personal and commercial vehicle applications. The system employs a GPS module (NEO-6M) interfaced with a microcontroller (ESP32) for data acquisition and processing. Location data is transmitted over a GPRS network to a cloud-based IoT platform ThingSpeak, where it is processed and visualized through a web dashboard and mobile application. Additional sensors including an accelerometer (MPU-6050) and an ultrasonic proximity sensor are integrated to detect sudden impact events indicative of collisions and to monitor safe following distances. The system achieves real-time location updates with a latency of under 3 seconds, GPS position accuracy within 2.5 meters CEP (Circular Error Probable), and reliable impact detection with 94.2% sensitivity and 91.8% specificity in controlled testing scenarios. The cloud platform stores historical trip data enabling route playback, geofencing alerts, and statistical analysis of driving behavior. The proposed system demonstrates significant promise as an affordable, scalable solution for vehicle safety and fleet monitoring. The modular hardware design ensures adaptability to different vehicle categories. Results confirm that the system performs reliably across urban and semi-urban environments, validating the potential of IoT-assisted vehicle monitoring to enhance road safety and reduce emergency response times.
