Abstract: IoT Enabled Smart Structural Health Monitoring System for Buildings ABSTRACT The present invention relates to an IoT-enabled smart structural health monitoring system for buildings capable of continuous, automated, and intelligent assessment of structural conditions. The system comprises a plurality of distributed sensor nodes installed at predetermined structural locations of a building for acquiring structural parameters including vibration, acceleration, strain, displacement, inclination, deformation, crack progression, and environmental parameters such as temperature and humidity. The acquired information is processed through local edge computing units and an IoT gateway for signal analysis, environmental compensation, adaptive baseline generation, anomaly detection, and structural condition evaluation. The system correlates multi-parameter and multi-location sensor information to identify abnormal structural behaviour, determine affected structural zones, and generate real-time structural health indicators. An event-triggered monitoring mechanism enables automatic adjustment of sensing frequency and communication activity during abnormal conditions while reducing power consumption and unnecessary data transmission during normal operation. The system further provides remote monitoring, historical analysis, automated alerts, and structural risk assessment through an IoT-based communication platform. The invention improves early detection of structural deterioration, minimizes false alarms, enhances monitoring efficiency, and provides a reliable technological framework for predictive maintenance and intelligent management of buildings and civil infrastructure.
