MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621079597 A) filed by Symbiosis International Deemed University on June 27, 2026, for Iot-Enabled Smart Parking System With Ultrasonic Occupancy Detection And Real-Time Guidance.
Inventors include Dr. N. A. Natraj; and Dr. Ca. Abhijit Chirputkar.
The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT IoT-ENABLED SMART PARKING SYSTEM WITH ULTRASONIC OCCUPANCY DETECTION AND REAL-TIME GUIDANCE The present invention discloses an IoT-enabled smart parking system (100) comprising ultrasonic proximity sensor nodes (110) mounted above individual parking slots for non- contact vehicle occupancy detection. Each sensor node (110) measures distance to the slot surface at configurable intervals and classifies slot occupancy by threshold comparison. Per-slot LED indicator panels (120) display real-time green and red visual guidance to approaching drivers. An edge gateway (130) aggregates occupancy data from all sensor nodes (110) via a low-power wide-area network interface (134) and transmits updates to a cloud platform (140) maintaining an occupancy database (142) and a predictive analytics engine (144). A mobile application (150) provides real-time available slot counts through a slot availability display (154) and turn-by- turn navigation to the nearest available slot via a navigation module (152). The system eliminates civil works associated with loop detector systems and the computational overhead of camera-based systems. [
