MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611101148 A) filed by Jawaaz Ahmad; Irfan Maqbool Bhat; and Design Innovation Centre; Islamic University Of Science And Technology on August 21, 2026, for Iot-Enabled Landslide Early Warning System Using Smart Geological Anchors With Embedded Strain-Sensing Electronics.

Inventors include Jawaaz Ahmad; and Irfan Maqbool Bhat.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an IoT-enabled landslide early warning system employing smart geological anchors with embedded strain-sensing electronics for real- time subsurface monitoring and prediction of slope instability. Each smart geological anchor integrates a load-bearing anchor body with strain sensors, signal conditioning circuitry, a processing unit, and a wireless communication module housed within a protected enclosure. The embedded sensors continuously measure deformation parameters including axial strain and bending strain induced by ground movement. Processed data is transmitted to a remote monitoring or cloud-based platform for threshold-based and trend-based analysis to identify progressive failure mechanisms preceding landslides. The system further incorporates low-power energy management and optional energy harvesting to enable long-term autonomous operation. By combining structural reinforcement and intelligent sensing within a single hardware unit and deploying a distributed network of such anchors, the invention provides a robust, scalable, and predictive early warning solution suitable for hilly terrains, transportation corridors, mining sites, and critical infrastructure slopes, thereby mitigating risks to life and property.
