MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611092498 A) filed by Chandigarh University on July 30, 2026, for Iot Enabled Ai Model For Monitoring And Improving Urban Cycling Infrastructure.

Inventors include Nitish Kumar; and Sumit Raj.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled Artificial Intelligence (AI) system for real-time monitoring and improvement of urban cycling infrastructure. The system integrates distributed fixed sensor nodes, bicycle-mounted sensing devices, edge computing gateways, and a cloud analytics platform to monitor road surface conditions, cyclist movement, environmental parameters, traffic interactions, lighting conditions, air quality, and obstacle detection. Edge computing performs data validation, adaptive sampling, hazard detection, and local alert generation, while AI-based cloud analytics execute anomaly detection, infrastructure deterioration forecasting, cyclist route safety scoring, and predictive risk mapping. The system further incorporates autonomous sensor calibration, secure communication, geospatial heat-map generation, and decision-support functions for maintenance planning and route optimization. The invention provides scalable, energy-efficient, and secure infrastructure monitoring, enabling proactive maintenance, enhanced cyclist safety, improved urban mobility, and sustainable smart city transportation management.
