Abstract: The present invention discloses a system and method for translating English statements containing idiomatic expressions into contextually appropriate Marathi statements. The system comprises an input receiving unit configured to receive an English sentence or paragraph, a preprocessing unit configured to perform sentence segmentation, tokenization, normalization, and generation of a normalized token sequence, an idiom database storing predefined English idiomatic expressions, corresponding semantic meanings, and grammatical variations, an idiom identification processor configured to identify idiomatic expressions and determine positional information through comparison with entries stored in the idiom database, a semantic interpretation processor configured to retrieve semantic meanings and replace identified idiomatic expressions to generate an intermediate English sentence, a translation processor configured to translate the intermediate English sentence into Marathi based on semantic content, and an output unit configured to generate Marathi text and optionally Marathi speech. The disclosed system performs semantic interpretation of idiomatic expressions before language translation to generate contextually accurate Marathi translations while preserving the intended meaning of the original English statements.
